JDC specializes in marine project management, with a particular focus on studying various environmental impacts. We design and conduct surveys of marine mammals using visual and acoustic equipment operated by our qualified staff. We have produced documentaries and organized exhibitions and events focused on marine conservation. JDC has created the “Researchers for a Day” program as an exclusive recreational and cultural activity for its members, through which the association’s monitoring activities are funded, as well as the maintenance and management of the Taranto Dolphin Sanctuary, the first refuge for dolphins rescued from captivity in the Mediterranean. In collaboration with other organizations/institutions, we conduct our research activities at sea using nautical equipment such as echo sounders, multiparametric probes, HD photo-video recording systems, and hydrophones for bioacoustic studies. In addition, JDC conducts cetacean sighting expeditions, as well as scientific research on cetaceans, aimed at secondary school students. We organize professional courses such as “Marine Mammal Observer” and “Whale Watchers Operators.” Since 2010, the Association has been part of OBIS-SEAMAP, Duke University’s interactive portal that collects data on cetacean sightings around the world.
